We take a risk-management approach when advising clients of all sizes on labor and employment law issues, focusing on identifying potential problems at the outset to avoid expensive litigation.

Our team provides comprehensive services to a cross-industry client base, with particular experience in the financial services, insurance, entertainment, real estate and health care fields. We advise clients in labor and employment matters relating to mergers and acquisitions, including workforce restructurings, plant closing laws and retention programs. In addition, we advise clients on employment issues involving discrimination and harassment, diversity, discipline and discharge, managing workforce and technological change, employment agreements, consulting agreements, separation agreements, wage and hour matters, restrictive covenants, family office staff issues, traditional labor issues and compliance with federal, state and local employment laws.

Our firm’s Internal Investigations Unit helps organizations conduct internal investigations into alleged sexual harassment in the workplace as well as maintain strong programs for receiving and investigating claims. We also work with organizations to strengthen in-house training programs to prevent harassment and related misbehavior.

Our goal is to identify and address problems early. Should issues arise, our team is experienced in finding cost-effective litigation alternatives, including representing clients in private and agency mediation. In addition, we have in-depth experience representing employers in proceedings before federal and state courts and fair employment practices agencies, as well as before arbitration panels, such as NYSE and FINRA panels.


  • Conducted investigation of alleged charges of misconduct by senior executive and prepared report for the Board of Directors regarding results of investigation and facilitated successful resolution of the matter.
  • Present customized, collaborative, discussion-based respect in the workplace training for thousands of employees, including concrete, tailored examples of inappropriate workplace conduct, whether based on information shared by the client or our own firsthand observations.
  • Structured lay-offs for numerous clients with no suits being filed, including both voluntary incentive programs and involuntary reductions-in-force.
  • Defended client in claims of discrimination and harassment before federal and state administrative agencies and courts obtaining dismissal of claims or favorable settlements.
  • Defended a major foreign-owned bank against claims of national origin and age discrimination and retaliation. The federal lawsuit challenged the practice of sending executives from its European home office to run its branch offices in the United States.
  • Negotiated a very favorable settlement of alleged wage and hour and related violations under the New York Labor Law, Unemployment Insurance Law and Workers Compensation Law where the potential liability exceeded $3 million.
  • Developing and implementing compliance HR policies and practices for client in diverse industries.
  • Counseled numerous securities firms in connection with background checks, as well as monitoring emails. and monitoring and taping phone conversations to assure compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Assisted one of the largest family offices in a structured lay-off of its staff.
  • Advised a public utility on employment and sexual harassment issues and conducted respect in the workplace training for thousands of its employees.
  • Counseled numerous clients, including financial services firms, with respect to implementing NLRB-compliant social medial, confidentiality and non-disparagement policies.
  • Persuaded an arbitrator to permit a hospital to eliminate “flex time” for registered nurses, which resulted in substantial economic savings for the hospital.
