"Federal COBRA Premium Assistance Program Extended"

On December 19, 2009, the President signed the 2010 Department of Defense Appropriations Act (the "Appropriations Act") into law.  Among other things, the Appropriations Act extends the availability of premium assistance for health care continuation coverage under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 ("COBRA"), first implemented under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 ("ARRA").  This Stroock Special Bulletin provides a brief overview of this expansion of COBRA premium assistance, and related transition rules and notice requirements.
