“New NYC Department of Buildings Process Requires Diagrams for Proposed New Buildings and Provides for 30-Day Public Challenge Period”

On February 2, 2009, the New York City Department of Buildings (“DOB”) announced a new process (the “DOB Process”) for real estate development projects in New York City. The DOB Process, which will go into effect on March 9, 2009, requires that each real estate development application be accompanied by a diagram of the proposed new development and gives the public a 30-day period in which to challenge DOB’s approval of a development application. This Stroock Real Estate Practice Group Special Bulletin provides a brief overview of the DOB Process and its potential implications for owners and developers of real estate in New York City.
