With a strong background in general real estate law, Jonathan Cohen concentrates his practice on leasing of office and retail properties throughout the United States and Canada for both landlord and tenant clients.  Representative current and past clients include Cisco Systems, Pfizer, Verizon, VeriSign, Aon Corporation, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Eddie Bauer, Polo Ralph Lauren and ULTA on the tenant side, and Beacon Capital Partners, Columbia Property Trust, Lincoln Property Company, Illinois State Teachers Retirement System, Kimco and Transwestern/Pearlmark on the landlord side.

Since 1994, Mr. Cohen has drafted and negotiated thousands of office and retail leases, subleases, space licenses and related documents on behalf of local, national and international office tenants, leading national retail chains, REITs, and national and local office building and shopping center owners and developers.

Prior to joining Stroock, Mr. Cohen served as lead in-house leasing counsel for the United States offices of a global law firm, a portfolio of some 30 locations comprising more than 2 million square feet.

Representative Matters

  • Represented a national REIT in the negotiation of a 440,000 square foot lease for the national headquarters of a large US bank.
  • Represented a global insurance company in the negotiation of its 240,000 square foot North American headquarters lease.
  • Represented a global technology company in the negotiation of a 100,000 square foot lease for its Canadian regional headquarters.
  • As lead outside leasing counsel, headed a team of attorneys handling all leasing for a prominent national retail chain.
  • As lead in-house leasing counsel for the United States operations of a global law firm, drafted and negotiated numerous leases, subleases, space licenses and related documents, developed and maintained a set of leasing forms to facilitate same, and advised the firm’s head of United States real estate operations on leasing and related matters.
