Eva Talel, a partner in Stroock’s Real Estate Department, heads the firm’s Co-op and Condominium Board Representation Group, which represents more than 200 co-ops and condos in every facet of their management and operations. Stroock’s co-op and condo representations include luxury apartment houses in Manhattan; residential and mixed-use condominium associations; and large hotel cooperatives (such as The Carlyle, The Pierre and The Sherry-Netherland). Stroock also serves as counsel to the Real Estate Board of New York’s Residential Management Council.

Eva is a recognized leader in the industry, having served as Chair of the New York City Bar Association’s Committee on Cooperative & Condominium Law. She has extensive experience at both the trial and appellate levels, as well as in arbitration and mediation forums, in virtually every type of matter that arises in the co-op and condo sphere. These include proprietary lease interpretation, expiration, extension, amendment and adoption issues; director breach of fiduciary duty claims; shareholder derivative suits; Board of Directors proxy contests; commercial lease issues; unit transfer and transfer tax disputes; the Cooperative and Condominium Abuse Relief Act; “bonus” plaza spaces; liability and directors and officers insurance coverage disputes; apartment alteration agreements and related disputes; and mold, lead-based paint, second-hand smoke and bedbug infestation issues.

Eva is a permanent “Expert Opinion” columnist for the New York Law Journal, is regularly interviewed by reporters for The New York Times Sunday Real Estate Section (as well as the Times’ online Real Estate Q&A column), and on NY1 News, where she comments on cutting-edge legal issues. She frequently provides expert commentary to The Wall Street Journal, The Real Deal, Brick Underground, am New York, and The Observer and has been a guest legal analyst on WNBC’s “Today in New York” news program.

Eva serves as an adjunct law professor at New York Law School and as a faculty member for the New York State Judicial Institute, where she educates state court judges and court attorneys on developments in cooperative and condominium law. She is a recipient of REBNY’s Residential Management Council’s Community Service Award and was named by New York Residential Magazine as one of the “Top Women to Watch for in 2014.” She has been recognized by Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers, and by AVENUE Magazine as a “Legal Elite Litigator.” She is a past recipient of the Service Award for leadership in the co-op and condo community.
