“It’s going to come down to whether or not the U.S. government and the president will negotiate an exchange that could result in the Russians releasing,” basketball superstar Brittney Griner, whom the U.S. State Department has declared wrongfully detained by the Russian government over allegations of cannabis oil possession, Stroock Partner and former resident legal advisor to the U.S. Embassy in Moscow Tom Firestone tells Cheddar News.
“It’s not exactly easy to negotiate with the Russians, ever — especially not right now. So, they've got a big task ahead of them, but the outward signs are that they are extremely committed to getting her home,” he adds.
