Kerry Cooperman, Stroock Special Counsel and full-time Director of the firm’s national pro bono program, was a principal contributor to “The Very Foundation of Good Citizenship: The Legal and Pedagogical Case for Culturally Responsive and Racially Inclusive Public Education for All Students,” a legal and scholarly report by the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance and the National Education Association.

The report presents research demonstrating why a culturally responsive and racially inclusive curriculum is the foundation of good citizenship, beneficial for all students, and consistent with federal and state law.  It also establishes that laws and policies that censor and punish educators for doing their jobs are not only misguided and harmful but potentially unlawful.

The LFAA, of which Stroock is an Alliance Firm, leverages the resources of the private bar in partnership with legal services organizations to amplify the voices of communities and individuals oppressed by racism to better use the law as a vehicle for change that benefits communities of color and to promote racial equity in the law.

The NEA is the nation’s largest professional employee organization, representing more than 3 million elementary and secondary teachers, higher education faculty, education support professionals, school administrators, retired educators, and students preparing to become teachers.
