New York Law Journal

By: Joel Cohen

In his latest article for the New York Law Journal, senior counsel Joel Cohen explores the distinction between expressing opinions as a commentator and making decisions as a public official.

Joel details a recent panel focused on whether Governor Andrew Cuomo properly, in conformity with the Constitution, closed and later restricted houses of worship due to COVID-19.

“The president, governors and mayors, in various ways, have taken actions they believe necessary that have troubled, offended and compromised many among us,” he writes. “Virtually every action they take or decline to take has had legal implications.”
