Press Release

The Florida Rights Restoration Coalition (FRRC) has been nominated for the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize, joining 304 other candidates under consideration by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. Stroock Special Counsel Lisa A. Pach leads the firm’s pro bono partnership with FRRC.

The American Friends Service Committee and Quaker Peace & Social Witness – two groups that successfully nominated the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. for the Peace Prize in 1964 –  nominated the FRRC in recognition “of their work in building democracy, supporting the human right to representation by government, and working towards a better organized and peaceful world.”

Based in Florida, FRRC is a grassroot nonprofit organization committed to ending the disenfranchisement and discrimination against people with past felony convictions. Their work led to the passage of Amendment 4 of Florida’s constitution, which at the time restored voting rights to over 1.4 million Floridians. The organization also works towards removing barriers to re-entry for people who have been incarcerated.

“We are humbled and grateful to be given this distinguished nomination,” said Desmond Meade, Executive Director of FRRC. “We hope it will amplify our efforts to demonstrate the power of love and second chances, and show how we can strengthen our society by empowering the most marginalized among us.”

The 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureates will be announced in October.
