Press Release

New York  Expanding the firm's capacity at the intersection of life sciences and intellectual property, Stroock today welcomed David Barr to its New York office as co-chair of the Patent Litigation Group and partner in the Intellectual Property practice.

"David's deep patent experience, impressive track record leading sophisticated life sciences matters and knack for relationship building will be key to the expansion of our life sciences IP work," said Alan Klinger, Stroock's Co-Managing Partner.

"As life sciences activity continues to surge, our clients in the industry will greatly benefit from David's litigation skills and broader understanding of life sciences and IP strategy," added Jeff Keitelman, Stroock's Co-Managing Partner.

David's practice focuses on complex patent litigation involving therapeutic drug products, diagnostics, and medical devices. His experience includes serving as lead trial counsel for Novartis, Sanofi, Regeneron and other leading biopharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in patent matters, including generic challenges to branded companies in Hatch-Waxman litigation, disputes between innovator companies relating to biologic drug products and biosimilar challenges to innovator biologic products. He has tried cases to the bench and juries and has represented clients before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including in contentious inter partes proceedings. Most recently, David helped secure trial and appellate court wins in defending his clients' therapeutic cholesterol-reducing antibody product against a charge of patent infringement by invalidating the patent and in a separate case also helped secure a complete jury verdict for his clients' HIV diagnostic products by invalidating the asserted patent. He also provides counsel related to IP-focused transactions, trade secret counseling, unfair competition litigation and strategic planning. David is a co-author and co-editor of the Practising Law Institute's treatise Pharmaceutical and Biotech Patent Law and co-chairs PLI's annual program on Recent Developments in Pharmaceutical and Biotech Patent Law.

"I'm thrilled to welcome David to our IP team as we continue to grow, strengthen and receive recognition across disciplines," said Timothy Gilman, co-chair of Stroock's Patent Litigation Group.

"Stroock's technical knowledge and commitment to further grow its IP Group present an exciting opportunity for me to build a practice and expand my capacity to advise cutting-edge life sciences companies," said Barr.

David joins Stroock from Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP and earned his J.D. from The George Washington University School of Law and his B.S. in biology from Cornell University.
