In a MEDIUM article titled “If Galileo Was Forced To Confess Today,” Stroock senior counsel Joel Cohen looks to Galileo’s recanting of his support for the Copernican theory of heliocentricity—the theory that the world moves—and considers the many false confessions today to evade punishment. According to Cohen, while it isn’t heroic to falsely admit wrongdoing to gain leniency, we certainly shouldn’t countenance any law enforcement officer with an agenda, particularly if his mission is simply to convict without regard to the suspect’s possible innocence.
