In an article titled “Are Certain Candidates Beyond Redemption?,” Stroock election lawyer Jerry H. Goldfeder considers New York City Council’s City Charter amendment barring certain felons from running for or holding office in the City. Noting the national trend to eliminate or at least mitigate discrimination against those with a criminal past, Goldfeder questions whether any particular crime should disqualify a candidate or deprive voters of the right to choose who may represent them.
