United States Patent and Trademark Office at U.S. Department of Commerce
Stuart conducts research on the economics of the patent system, intellectual property (IP) transactions, and the relationship of IP to entrepreneurship and the commercialization of new technologies. He received his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley, and holds other advanced degrees in Law (JD), Business (MBA), and Information Systems (MA). An attorney licensed in New York State, he has written on companies’ intellectual property and litigation strategies, patenting by hi-tech startups and entrepreneurs, and comparisons of the US and European patent systems.
William Kerr, Ph.D.

Bill is an expert in the economics of intellectual property and competitiveness. He has produced several books and articles on these subjects, including co-authoring a leading treatise on the economics of intellectual property damages, now in its seventh edition. He regularly consults with clients on valuation of technology and licensing of IP assets. He has taught economics and statistics and has testified as an expert in litigation related to intellectual property, unfair competition and other issues.

Ralph has deep experience in litigation funding; before launching Bentham, Ralph was managing director of Validity Capital Partners, which focused on patent monetization. Ralph helped establish Credit Suisse’s Litigation Risk Strategies group, where he was a principal for over four years, introducing innovative third-party funding to a traditional Wall Street investment bank.

Bradley has a broad corporate and securities law practice, with particular focus on mergers and acquisitions, financial restructurings and corporate reorganizations, and private equity (including fund formation and seed investments in emerging fund managers). He also has extensive experience representing buyers and sellers of investment management businesses.
Ian G. DiBernardo
Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP
Ian counsels clients on intellectual property and Internet law, focusing on complex intellectual property and technology transactions and intellectual property litigation. He has litigated matters on behalf of patent owners asserting infringement, as well as operating companies defending against claims of infringement. He frequently conducts due diligence on behalf of Stroock’s private equity clients in connection with the potential funding of litigations and investing in intellectual property.
