Real Estate - Investment Management

Stroock has long been a major player in the real estate industry serving pension funds, private real estate funds, investment advisers, institutional investors, asset managers and other fiduciaries.  Working closely with our tax and ERISA attorneys, our advice has formed the basis of innumerable investment structures that are designed to achieve both the transactional objectives of our fund and advisory clients as well as a comfort zone that assures them that they are operating within their vehicle’s or investor’s guidelines and the law.  Stroock has been extremely active on both the fund formation side and the real estate transactional side for its investment management and fiduciary clients.  Our Real Estate Group is closely aligned with Stroock’s Infrastructure and Project Finance practice, which focuses on public private partnerships (PPPs) and our Corporate Mergers, Acquisitions and Joint Ventures practice, which frequently represents public and private companies with large real estate portfolios.

The nation’s landscape is dotted with major real estate projects that Stroock has bought, sold or financed for its institutional investor and private funds client base, including office buildings, regional malls, hotels, self storage, senior housing and assisted living facilities, shopping centers, residential developments, industrial parks and warehouses.  At Stroock, we are capable of handling even the largest portfolio transaction with the same care and diligence that we would exercise on a single asset transaction.  Whether it is the joint venture acquisition of 14 regional malls or an acquisition of a 21.8 million square foot industrial property portfolio spread over 129 separate buildings located in seven markets, our dynamic approach to real estate allows us to offer the full range of legal services and places Stroock at the top of the nation’s elite real estate practices.

Stroock has assisted its clients in managing the risks and enhancing the rewards associated with the active management of a real estate investment.  Stroock has served, de facto, as a key part of its clients’ asset management teams and has brought focus to a wide range of legal issues affecting real estate assets, including, environmental contamination, mold litigation, landlord/tenant disputes, terrorism insurance, mechanics’ liens, bankruptcy, land use issues, condemnation, casualty settlements, torts and labor contract negotiations.
