Stroock Miami Litigator Lewis F. Murphy Recognized as ‘Lawyer of the Year’ for a Third Time
Miami, FL, August 23, 2016 – Stroock & Stroock & Lavan litigation partner Lewis F. Murphy has been named as 2017 Litigation – Securities "Lawyer of the Year" for the Miami region by Best Lawyers in America. He was named "Lawyer of the Year" in Bet-The-Company Litigation in 2009 and Insurance Law in 2012.
"As one of South Florida's leading litigators, Lew's recognition as 'Lawyer of the Year' is well-deserved," said James G. Sammataro, Miami managing partner. "His breadth of experience and top-notch courtroom instincts make him an invaluable resource to assist clients with their complex commercial litigation needs."
Murphy focuses his practice on complex multidistrict and cross-border, bet-the-company and commercial litigation for Miami-based and national clients. He is noted for his extensive experience in securities and fiduciary duty litigation, class actions and derivative claims, SEC investigations, proxy contests and corporate takeovers, as well as class actions for insurance retail sales fraud.
"It is an honor to be selected as 'Lawyer of the Year' and even more so for a third time," Murphy said. "I am both proud and humbled to be recognized by my peers for work that I have considered personally rewarding throughout my career."
Murphy joins 46 additional Stroock attorneys, almost 50 percent of the firm's partners and of counsel, included on this year's Best Lawyers in America list.
He received a bachelor's degree in 1972 from the United States Naval Academy and a law degree with high honors in 1980 from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
