Stroock’s nationally ranked Financial Restructuring Group has been lauded by The M&A Advisor Turnaround Awards for two of the year’s leading distressed transactions – “Energy Deal of the Year (over $1B)” and “Restructuring of the Year ($500M - $1B).”

For the “Energy Deal of the Year” award, Stroock was recognized for its work in the EP Energy matter. The deal was led by partners Kris Hansen, Frank Merola and Ken Pasquale, who represented the unsecured creditors' committee in connection with the voluntary chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. Despite challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and plummeting oil prices, the team successfully negotiated a reorganization plan. The deal team included Stroock’s Jonathan Canfield (partner), Erez Gilad (partner) and Samantha Martin (special counsel).

The “Restructuring of the Year” award was presented to Stroock for its representation of an ad hoc group of term lenders of American Addiction Centers led by partners Sayan Bhattacharyya and Dan Fliman. A national name in the substance abuse treatment industry, American Addiction Centers worked with Stroock through the company’s restructuring process, where the Stroock team successfully negotiated a restructuring support agreement, DIP facility, key documents and settlements in the chapter 11 cases, and new organizational and financing documents for the reorganized company. The team also included Alex Cota (partner), Brian Kelly (partner), Marija Pecar (partner), Jeff Uffner (partner), Matthew Garofalo (special counsel), Thomas Shiah (special counsel), Cole Harlan (associate), Emily Kuznick (associate) and Elizabeth Loonam (associate).

The 2021 M&A Advisor Turnaround Awards will take place on September 29th in New York City.
