Press Release

New York, New York - Stroock associate TaLona H. Holbert has been recognized by City & State in its annual 40 Under 40 list, featuring young professionals with "truly outstanding" endeavors in shaping New York's politics and policy.

TaLona is a member of the firm’s Litigation Group and her practice focuses on a range of complex disputes, including matters related to insurance and reinsurance. A significant portion of her pro bono practice involves work to advance the rights of women, people of color and the LGBTQ+ community. She is a frequent volunteer with several organizations that share her goal of pursuing a more just society.

TaLona was recently appointed as co-chair of the New York City Bar Association’s Minorities in the Profession Committee and co-chairs the AIDA Reinsurance and Insurance Arbitration Society (ARIAS) Forms and Procedures Committee. TaLona also serves on the National Moot Court Competition Committee and has been shortlisted for Chambers’ Diversity & Inclusion Awards: Future Leader – Minority Lawyers and named twice to the National Black Lawyers Top 100 list.

TaLona’s path to Big Law was not traditional – she grew up in foster care and attended college with no financial support. Despite the challenges, she was dedicated to pursue a legal career, brought on by her admiration of making a difference. “Even though I wanted to work in Big Law, it was also important for me to find a way to give back,” she says. “You can’t pour from an empty cup. So it was important to me to be able to go somewhere where I could get the resources where I could sow those resources into the community.”
