New York, NY, December 1, 2016 – James L. Bernard, a partner in Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP’s Litigation Practice Group, has been elected as President of the Federal Bar Foundation, serving the courts and legal community of the Second Circuit, effective November 23, 2016. 
Founded in 1964, the Federal Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not for profit entity that accepts tax deductible contributions to support the educational activities of the Federal Bar Council, as well as other organizations and causes in the Second Circuit, including funding a two-year fellowship for the Immigrant Justice Corps, annual contributions to the U.S. Attorneys’ Internship Fund, special publications, and CLE programs and conferences.  As President, Mr. Bernard’s responsibilities will include the oversight of the Foundation’s educational activities and donations, as well as helping to raise funds for the Foundation.
“It is an honor to be selected as the President of the Federal Bar Foundation,” said Mr. Bernard.  “While I have set high goals to work towards during my term, I will dedicate my time to help raise money to support the many worthy projects of the Council, as well as  support the Council’s continuing legal education activities which have served the New York City legal community for so long and so well.”
Founded in 1932, the Federal Bar Council is a group of more than 3,700 lawyers who practice in the federal courts of the Second Circuit. Its members include judges, prosecutors, public defenders, professors, experienced private lawyers at firms of all sizes, and lawyers who are just starting out in practice.
