In an article for Law360, Akshay Belani and John Sottile discuss recent U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission amendments that update the definition of "accredited investor" in Rule 215 and Rule 501(a) of Regulation D under the Securities Act. The amendments are scheduled to become effective on Dec. 8.

Akshay and John note that it seems quite clear that the aggregate effect of the expanded definition of accredited investor and the likely effect of future amendments, is a liberalization of the securities laws.
