In a New York Law Journal article titled “One Day in Jail—Commencing Now,” Stroock Senior Counsel Joel Cohen recounts a time where a client was facing sentencing for a white collar crime. In the courtroom, the judge made a decision which surprised Cohen and the defendant – the client was sentenced to six months of electronically-monitored home confinement, in addition to 24 hours in jail, which began immediately after the decision. Cohen also explains why his initial view on this punishment changed after hearing his client’s account of jail.
