California remains at the forefront of consumer litigation and legislation. We are pleased to provide our 2020 Annual Overview of California’s Unfair Competition Law (“UCL”) and Consumers Legal Remedies Act (“CLRA”).

The Annual Overview includes a comprehensive summary of both the state of the law and noteworthy recent developments. Since our last update, decisions from California and federal courts provided important direction under the UCL and CLRA in the areas of arbitration, Article III standing and statutory standing, the time to bring a class action to trial, class damages and restitution limitations under the UCL and CLRA, the “unfairness” standards under the UCL and other timely issues.
