LISA Investor Conference

Stroock Partner Boris Ziser will be speaking on a panel titled "How The Life Settlements Statutory Scheme Provides Investors Protection" at 1:45pm.

Forty-two of the 50 states regulate the sale of life insurance policies by the policy owner to a licensed provider in a life settlement transaction. While these statutory protections were enacted with the primary intent of ensuring that sellers of policies receive fair treatment, they have the additional effect of providing investors in the life settlements asset class with greater peace of mind that the purchased asset is not susceptible to contest by state regulators or the issuing carriers on certain grounds. This panel will explore how life settlements laws afford investors substantial protections, steps that might be taken to increase the protections in a rational manner, as well as the importance to investors of robust disclosure of the life settlements option to consumers.
