Join the Young Leaders Group, New York District Council of ULI – the Urban Land Institute, for a presentation and discussion on the following topics.

• What are the reasons a company would file for bankruptcy?
• How does a bankruptcy work? Who are the players? How is it structured? How long does the process take?
• What are the common issues and concerns of the parties involved? How are firms navigating around these issues?
• Who were the players behind some of the recent filings with GGP and Extended Stay Hotels and what lessons were learned? The presentation will be led by William Campbell and Kristopher Hansen, Partners at Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP.

Mr. Campbell is experienced in the sale and purchase of performing and non-performing real estate loans and “REO” properties, and has extensive experience in loan workouts and restructurings. Mr. Campbell represents clients in commercial real estate transactions, including the origination, purchase, sale and securitization of commercial real estate loans, including senior and subordinate mortgage and mezzanine loans, constructions loans, syndicated loans and preferred equity investments.

Mr. Hansen is the co-chair of Stroock’s Financial Restructuring Group. His practice covers the broad spectrum of corporate, litigation and core bankruptcy matters necessary for the representation of creditor, debtor, distressed investor and distressed merger and acquisition and equity clients in the restructuring arena. Mr. Hansen typically represents individual investors in the structuring and execution of distressed investment strategies.

Recent bankruptcy filings in the commercial real estate realm including:GGP, Extended Stay, and others have prompted potential significant repercussions to all parties. Investors, borrowers, lenders, servicers, lawyers, and brokers all should have a comprehensive understanding of the potential implications of these early filings and what considerations should be taken when analyzing commercial real estate.

The presentation will last approximately 60 minutes followed by a discussion / question and answer period.
