Intellectual Property

Stroock attorneys know that no matter what the business, a company’s ideas and products are valuable assets that require protection. Stroock attorneys counsel clients on all aspects of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, licensing, trade secrets, and litigation. Our intellectual property lawyers understand that there is more than just a casual correlation between the ability to protect scientific or technological innovations and the willingness of investors, or the marketplace, to finance innovation-based companies. Accordingly, our counseling ties together our in-depth knowledge of intellectual property law with our practical business knowledge and experience to ensure that our clients are properly leveraging their intellectual property assets to the fullest extent possible in these highly competitive times. Our patent attorneys and other patent professionals provide strategic guidance in developing, protecting and maximizing the returns on an intellectual property portfolio. Many of our professionals have extensive industry experience as well as technical backgrounds. Stroock also offers clients a full range of international patent services through our network of foreign associates. Additionally, we routinely provide opinions as to whether the activities of our clients may infringe upon the rights of third parties, or whether third parties are infringing upon our clients’ rights. Our trademark group obtains and maintains trademarks, trade names and copyrights for many of our clients. We are responsible for the protection of thousands of trademarks, both in the United States and internationally. We also offer services related to searching and clearing potential trademarks before they are adopted and marketing investments are made. We have extensive trademark litigation experience in federal and state courts, and also represent our clients in opposition and cancellation proceedings in the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Clients also regularly ask us to assist in the negotiation of licensing transactions and technology transfers. We routinely structure and negotiate technology license agreements, software agreements, sponsored research and development agreements and the licensing of pre-clinical or development stage compounds or devices. Our attorneys are experienced in negotiating these transactions and ensuring that our clients are protected properly, as licensors or licensees.
