Stroock believes that a diverse workplace is essential to providing the highest quality legal services and maximizing opportunities for personal and professional development.  We focus both on the career goals of our attorneys, through our Mentor Program and ongoing in-house training programs, and the broader community, through our pro bono efforts and the work of our Affinity Groups.  Our commitment can be seen in our participation in internship programs that introduce inner-city youth to the legal profession, and our participation in community-based programs like Practicing Attorneys for Law Students (“PALS”), ABCNY Thurgood Marshall Program and Legal Outreach.

Open Letter

In June we witnessed the deadliest mass shooting in the recent history of the United States.  We would like to express our profound sadness and sympathy for the 49 victims and their families, friends and colleagues.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost loved ones in this senseless act of terror.  

Let this event serve as a reminder that although our laws have made great progress, we still have a long way to go.  More than that, this event should be a call to action, both in our work and personal lives.  We must endeavor to eradicate prejudice and hatred through pro bono work and community events.  We stand in solidarity with the LGBT community and vow to continue to fight for tolerance and equality.   

We must also scrutinize our nation's gun control policies and work to effectuate changes that may help to prevent these tragedies, which have become far too common.  It is incumbent upon us as citizens, and particularly as lawyers, to help conceive of, advocate for, and implement the changes we wish to see.  We must act to put an end to mass murders resulting from gun violence.

Finally, we must recognize the danger of responding to hatred with hatred, and prejudice with prejudice.  We reaffirm our rejection of the notion that the actions of a few can or should be ascribed to millions of others based on their religion, the color of their skin, or their sexual orientation.

In the aftermath of this tragedy, let us find courage in one another as we heal, and let us emerge stronger and more engaged in the fight for equality and safety for all.
